Is it wrong to want a dog when another dog just died?

my parents are divorced and my dad just moved, so i've been begging him for a dog. but my mom's dong Montoivett just died (hung himself from our porch when we werent home, he was trying to catch a squirrel and his leash got caught.) now my mom thinks that im trying to replace Montoivett with another dog, but im not. i just want my dad to have a dog. so i wanna know is she right? is it wrong to want another dog?
