Installing car audio system 2006 Chrysler 300 touring edition.?

Okay , My friend decided to upgrade to a little more sound in his car. He wants to replace his factory Navigation unit with a Pioneer. We bought a wire harness adapter followed the wiring instructions to the T. the Illumination doesn't work it accepts a CD but doesn't turn on or play sound( this was a test to see if it was installed properly i guess it wasn't). from what we can see the unit has power or it wouldn't even accept the CD, its not spinning up the disk or showing any sign of powering on when the key is turned on the remote line is hooked up no amps or subs have been hooked to this yet as we are testing to see if its connected properly does anyone know if we have to order a aftermarket wiring harness and chip to bypass anything to make it work. any help would be appreciated.
